What To Do If You Get Dumped

Dumped? Time For Action Then

First things first:

If you’ve been dumped then it’s going to hurt like hell for a while and coming to terms with it is just something that has to run its course.

There’s no time line and no natural conclusion, it just depends on:

  1. how long you were in the relationship for

  2. how able you are to cope without your partner and

  3. how much of a shock was it when you heard those immortal words: ‘it’s not you, it’s me’.

There are plenty of self-help books and online tips and advice on the matter but take it from someone who knows – it’s up to you how you want to get over this thing and anyone who tells you differently are pretty much lying.

All I can offer you is my own personal experience on how I came to terms with a thoroughly messy break-up after a three year relationship ended leaving me distraught and pretty much alone.

So, if you want to take my advice then great but, if you don’t, then listen to your head rather than your heart and do your best to move on.

Remember:

Time is a great healer and crying on the couch after eating a box of After Eight mints that you found at the back of the cupboard is just part of the process.

Let It All Out

In a nutshell:

You need to grieve the loss of your partner so just get on and do it.

Cry, sob, weep and wail because the longer and the more passionately you let it out then the more cathartic the process will become.

If you have good friends or family members then burden them with all of your troubles until they’re sick of the sight of you.

Demand that you pull yourself together, which is pretty much exactly what you need to do.

Get Fit

Once you’ve used up all of the Kleenex in the house then it’s time to get yourself back on track and a key way of doing this is to get fit.

Start jogging, join a gym or start cycling to work because all of these things will be more beneficial than starting a crazy fad diet that will only leave you depressed and hungry.

Yes, it’s inside what counts however, if you have a totally fit bod on the outside then you’re probably going to start to feel slightly better about yourself.

Have Some Fun

Get out there and start doing the things that you didn’t used to do when you were in a relationship.

Try not to wander down memory lane too much by visiting old stomping grounds – make sure you’re not afraid to try new things or meet new people.

Do something completely different or set yourself a goal that you’d like to achieve which involves having fun and letting your hair down.

Party like it’s 1999 or just go bowling because you can, whatever floats your boat – just do it!

Once you’re getting back on your feet and you’ve started to exercise and have fun then it’s time to take the plunge.

Book those last minute singles holidays that will invariably see you heading off into the wide blue yonder in search of love, peace and happiness. Organised singles holidays are a great way to do your own thing and meet new people.

Make sure that you’re not running away because you’ll only have to come back and face the music.

Move On

After you’ve finally washed that man or woman out of year after months of filling your single life with only positive and liberating activities then, my friend, it’s time to move on.

This may mean starting to date again, doing things that you used to associate with your ex or simply feeling happy about yourself for the first time in ages.

Just remember: no one can tell you how you should feel and what you should do however, take it from someone who knows:
